Hydroponics Books - hydroponic gardening made easy | |||||||||||||||||||
Hydroponics. All you need is water, and a bit of patience. Well, that's not strictly accurate. A book comes in handy too! Also, for successful hydroponic cultivation you need to ensure that you plants receive the right mix of water, nutrients, light, air and warmth. Not surprisingly - particularly given the ever-increasing popularity of growing marijuana (cannabis sativa) hydroponically - a wide range of suppliers has sprung up to supply the hydroponic gardener. But hydroponics is not about growing your own pot. Hydroponic cultivation has been around since time immemmorial. Many historians think that the Hanging Gardens of Babylon were hydroponically-grown; the Aztecs of Central Mexico produced crops to feed hundreds of thousands from floating islands on the waters of Lake Tenochlitlan (until it dried up and became the site of the world's largest city). In Asia, rice has been grown in flooded paddies for centuries, and Marco Polo described floating gardens on his famous voyages to the East. The ancient Egyptians are recorded as growing certain plants in the Nile with water but no soil. All these are examples of hydroponic cultivation. Since then hydroponics has been subject to intense scientific scrutiny, as it offers such promise as a weapon in the world's fight against poverty. A spinoff from all this research is cheap, simple hydroponic equipment which you can use for your own hydroponic gardening. With a little investment in equipment to regulate heating, lighting, aeration and nutrition, you can produce a never-ending stream of your own, wonderful, fresh vegetables and flowers.
Hydroponics - go on, you have nothing to lose but the use of your garage, and hours and hours of your time. But it's better than watching Eastenders, isn't it? Of course, what you'll need first is a book...
